Kalpitiya Lagoon

Kalpitiya is a coastal town located in the Puttalam district of Sri Lanka. It is situated on a peninsula that separates the Indian Ocean from the Puttalam lagoon. Kalpitiya is known for its beautiful beaches, diverse marine life, and water sports such as kite surfing, wind surfing, and snorkeling.

The town has a rich history and was once an important center for the spice trade. It was also ruled by various colonial powers such as the Portuguese, Dutch, and British. The Dutch Fort in Kalpitiya is a popular tourist attraction that reflects the town’s colonial past.

Apart from its beaches and water activities, Kalpitiya is also known for its wildlife. The Wilpattu National Park, located nearby, is home to a variety of animals such as leopards, elephants, sloth bears, and deer. The Bar Reef, a marine sanctuary located off the coast of Kalpitiya, is also a popular spot for diving and snorkeling, as it is home to a diverse range of marine life such as sea turtles, dolphins, and whales.

Kalpitiya is a relatively untouched and uncrowded destination in Sri Lanka, making it an ideal place for those looking to escape the crowds and experience a more peaceful and laid-back side of Sri Lanka.
